american artist amanda flores (b. 1988) uses mixed media as a conduit to unmask and explore concepts such as disability, identity, caretaking, and resistance. she is inspired by modern art movements of the 20th and 21st centuries. she uses a blend of classic composition as well as intuitive techniques to create pieces that have been described as beautiful, naive, and whimsical.
mrs. flores works primarily with acrylic-painted paper handmade with a gelli plate mounted on repurposed sanded and painted board or cradled wood panel. she has also done portrait work in oil pastel. her inspirations include jackie schomburg meynen, jackie bernardi, helen houghton, sheree burlington, cas holmes, and louise gardiner.
